This story is a collaberated (sp?) work by Kanga and I. Hope you enjoy, next part coming soonish.

                                                    Carlee's POV

As she walked along the filthy streets of the slums, Carlee contemplated how she could get by Jesse’s gang turf without being seen. She vainly wished that Cassandra was with her. But, she had a nice family, in a nice neighborhood. Whereas Carlee lived in the worst part of the slums, with her dad out of work and all, they barely had enough. Her scuffed up high-tops shuffled along the torn up sidewalk and the wind penetrated her threadbare jean jacket that had been a hand-me-down from her eldest brother Jim. How she wished he didn’t go off to college. But, she had no power to prevent his leaving. Her ripped up khaki pants dragged along two sizes too big and her backpack strap was hanging on by a thread. Sighing deeply and looking up at the sky, she wondered what life would be like if her family actually got along at the very least. Her dad… “No, I don’t wanna go there.” She pushed the thought hastily aside.

But now she had to watch her step. If any of Jesse’s thugs saw her, she knew that they would take her to him. And that was one of the last things she wanted to deal with at that moment. Slipping along, nervously glancing from side to side, Carlee worked her way along the alleys and side streets, finally emerging out of the gangs territorial reach. Pleased, Carlee practically skipped to her house. Or, shack with three rooms, not including the outhouse or kitchen bar. Blowing her slant-cut hair out of her face, her cool grey eyes filled with anxious anticipation, her pale face blanched even more than it’s already light coloring. “Here goes nothing,” and with that resigned thought she slid into her dwelling.
